Those attending listened to speakers, music, wrote letters to Congress, and held a forum with three state legislators on upcoming energy legislation. A key theme was No New Coal, especially relevant because of the City of Cleveland's recent commitment to be part of a new coal fired power plant in SE Ohio. A key note address was given by Cleveland's own, Congressman & Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, a savior of Cleveland's publicly owned utility in the 1970s, who condemned the coal power decision of the system he saved. The decision won't be finalized until March, and a lively fight is certain. Step It Up Cleveland wants to acknowledge the help it received from Ben Walsh, local field organizer of the National Environmental Trust, and the Northeast Ohio Sierra Club.
