The University of Montana Step It up rally/tailgate was a great success. Students, faculty and community members joined together to enjoy local food and climate chatter. The consensus of the group was clear: it's time for climate leadership!
The University President, George Dennison, kicked off the event saying global warming is the most pressing "global issue" of our time and we must take action to combat it.
Although no political leaders attended the event, Senator Max Baucus did send a representative from his office with a note:
"...I believe it is a moral imperative to deal with climate change. That's why I supported America's Climate Security Act, which represents a reasonable approach to dealing with this. This bill is good for Montana, and good for our earth. It supports a cap and trade system, which is vital. It also helps to address wildfires, and helps our agriculture...we all have the responsbility to leave this earth better then how we inherited it."
We were also fortunate to have Dr. Steve Running, Climate Scientist and member of the Nobel Peace Prize winning IPCC, join us.
Overall it was a great time and the perfect way to send our message: Step it up: it's time for climate leaders!
