A windy day at Mt. Rushmore, with over 45 people in attendance, we had fantastic crowd participation both with discussion and insightful questions from children and adults. We had representatives from the offices of the South Dakota U.S senators, and a written statement from congresswoman Herseth Sandlin. A So far we have received 6 media hits from television, radio, and newspapers, and we are expecting more. All of the representatives admitted in their statements that global warming is a huge problem and more should be done to address the issue. The keynote speaker, Patrick Spears of Native Wind expressed the need for more renewable energy, more energy efficiency, no more coal, and more fuel efficient cars. There was strong representation from the tribal communities in South Dakota, including the president of South Dakota Peace & Justice, and other notable native activist groups. We are confident that our elected officials heard our message for immediate and strong action on global warming loud and clear.
