Chapin Hall is one of the largest buildings on the Williams campus, and it is fronted by massive columns. On the morning of Nov. 3 those columns supported 20 foot+ bar graphs comparing the costs of climate action now to the costs of climate change damage in the future. This was the setting for speeches by Senator Ben Downing on the MA Global Warming Solutions Act and Selectwoman Jane Allen on Williamstown’s CO2 lowering commitment. Questions followed from the eager audience of perhaps 60 students, college staff, and community members. After checking out tables of refreshments, green finger photos, petition signing, and information on presidential candidates, 55 people caravanned out to Jiminy Peak- a nearby ski resort that has just installed a wind turbine on their mountain. The VP of Sustainability gave us a tour including a steep ride up the mountain in the chair lift. Then everyone returned to campus for post-event festivities and relaxation.
