| Rep. Brad Ellsworth |

For Step It Up Ellsworth! about 50 of us gathered on a beautiful morning in front of the Civic Center in downtown Evansville. Some of us wore gas masks or dust masks in acknowledgement of our poor air quality, and we had lots of banners and signs with "No New Coal" "Step It Up Brad [Ellsworth]" and "Step It Up Mitch [Daniels]". Our speakers included Carly Watson, who moved here from Arizona and discussed the health issues we have due to the 17 coal-fired power plants that surround Evansville; Matt Morton, who owns a renewable energy company and discussed the lack of incentives in Indiana to take advantage of the wind and sun; Wendy Knipe Bredhold, who discussed the national movement, urged the crowd to continue to agitate political leaders, and pointed out Congressman Ellsworth's rep; Dale Allen Pfeiffer, an author and expert on peak oil, who discussed steps we need to take to avert global warming, including harnessing the power of the Ohio River for energy and better mass transportation; Christine Belt, who questioned why economic development is more valued than public health in our area; and Valley Watch president John Blair, who said that ultimately, we are the leaders who need to show the government the direction in which we need to go. Media included a radio station, all three television news stations, and a photographer and reporter from the newspaper.
